Chelmsford, Marconi Waterhouse Lane canteen 1964
Although some Chelmsfordians will be unfamilier with this view it should be intantly recognisable to ex employees of Marconi Communications Systems Limited and EEV of Waterhouse Lane Chelmsford (UK) including me as I worked at the Marconi site here for 15 years.
The picture shows the canteen building chimney under construction during 1964. This was located out the back of the factory in the carparks and service road. The canteen closed in 1999 along with the rest of the Marconi factory and was demolished in 2001.
The street middle left is the bottom of Waterhouse Street (long before Bilton Road et al was built) and the houses middle right are on Westlands Estate.
Taken by Dave himself in 1964 from his archives and posted here with kind permission.
